Horsre Racing

Luck is what everybody wishes for; without luck, life is harder to run and can never be as glamorous as it would be if you had luck. Money can appear through gambling if you have luck, even the happiness of meeting "the one is luck. Luck can only change people's destinies for the better--or can it be fatal? In "The Rocking-Horse Winner, striving for luck controls an entire family ˜s schema, some convinced of being born without it, and another "knowing that he has it. D.H. Lawrence's protagonist, Paul, is a little boy who can prove his mother wrong and establish that he really does have luck. Through a series of related incidents in the plot, Lawrence illustrates his theme that the lack of luck is the lack of life.
The power of luck is greatly demonstrated by Master Paul. He spies on his mother, who leads an unlucky life, seeing what "failure [can do, to] make deep lines come into her face (200). This shows aging and success is never near. His father "had good prospects ¦ [although] his prospects never materialized (200). Material things will only come side by side along with luck. The boy witnessed the heartbreak of his mother, knowing no matter how hard she tries, she could not become victorious. He came across the question: Is luck money? No, "it's what causes you to have money (201). After hearing this, he himself had his heart set upon the fact that he needed luck; he needed success, he needed to find out if he was born with luck, and if he was, how to make a product of it.

Wrestling

You can still see the negative effects of violence in entertainment today as you could in Roman civilization. Such effects include drinking, hustling and gambling, and riots. All of these you could observe at horse racing, sporting, and theatre in Roman times as you can see at baseball, football games and boxing matches today.
Even though organized public sports are all in good fun, some of them encourage or put a false sense of good in violence and maybe that's why so many people don't get enough fun out of the games themselves that they have to bet on events and drink while they are at these events. The drinking and gambling also took place in Roman civilization at such events as organized public sports and especially boxing (an even more brutal sport) where people have died participating accidentally.
Boxing, two guys beating the crap out of each other for money (or in Roman times, for their lives). Don't get me wrong, I love a good fight as much as the next guy, but when a sport that is intended for mature viewers is seen by young children, they might get a false sense of good by the people cheering in the background. It is sad that it is like that now because it did not happen in Roman times (where you had to actually see the fight).
Theatre and acting as certainly taken on a different role since the roman ages. But then again, it still has many similar elements that visualize violence. In Roman times there were female actresses that would strip on stage, but I can just turn on Cinemax late at night and see that. So can the viewer that is not supposed to be watching it (children) get a false sense of feeling for a woman and that leads to sexism and all that.

Boxing

Boxing has been known as a sport since 1838. From Ethiopia to ancient Egypt and even
spread throughout the Mediterranean area. Boxing was added into the Olympic sporting
event in 688 B.C. Even before that time boxing was known by the Greeks. One form of boxing was for the opponents to sit on stones facing one another and pound away at each other until one of them was knocked out. As time passed, boxing grew violently. The Romans added Brass Studs and later pinned the men into an arena where the Gladiators would fight to the death. Boxing was banned by Rome about 30 B.C. Before losing the sport the Romans were the first to invent the ring which was a drawn are scratched marked circle.
As Christianity grew boxing disappeared as a whole from Europe. Later, coming to England in the 17th century. At that point and time the sport was a combination of wrestling and boxing. Where the boxers were allowed to actually grab their opponent and throw them to the ground, jump on him, and hit him while he was down.
Thrusting into the 20th century boxing reached new heights. From Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier and many other great boxers, boxing was more of a sense defined as Prize fighting.
The First Million dollar fight was between formerly known Casius Clay, Muhammad Ali, and the supposed American's Champ, Joe Frazier. A friendship grew bitter amongst the fighters after Muhammad Ali lost his title and was imprisoned in jail for his Muslim beliefs. After regaining the public's attention he then called out Joe Frazier to fight that would go down in history as the first million dollar payday amongst boxers. After losing the first of 3 fights with Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali recaptured the title and went on to defeat Joe Frazier 2 out of the 3 fights. Embarking on a monstrous fight with George Foreman in Africa, whom defeated Frazier for the Heavy Title. Boxing has come to be a huge payday sense those times.

Bench Press

The bench press is a simultaneous motion exercise and is considered one of the "core weight lifting exercises. The reason behind this is because it is extremely effective in strengthening the prime movers of the upper extremities. Here are a few examples of were this can be found: football-tackling, blocking and passing, swimming-crawl and breaststroke, track and field-pole vault, shot put, and discus, boxing-punching, basketball-shooting, boxing out and rebounding. There are also other muscles that are strengthened besides your pectoralis major and minor. There are you triceps, anterior and middle deltoids, wrist flexors (grip), and your rotator cuff and biceps work as a stabilizer and are slightly strengthened.
There are a few things that you should do before you begin your lift phase of the bench press. You should stretch and warm up. Your stretching should be static stretching and it should be before you work out and after you are finished. The reason that you want to stretch is that it helps prevent injuries and it also improves strength. The more flexible you are the better. A good stretch before bench pressing is to grab a pole above your head and lower your body while you hold on to the pole. This will stretch out most of your upper extremities. After you have stretched you need to warm up. Push-ups are an excellent form of warming up for the bench press. When warming up you basically want to get the blood flowing but you don't want too overdue it because then you wont be as strong for your lift.

Fitness Exersice

What is weight training? When people think of weight training, they usually think of big bulky men that work- out at the gym for six to eight hours a day- that is only partially true. James Hesson, author of Weight Training for Life, defines weight training as adding resistance to the body's natural movements in order to make those movements more difficult, and encourage the muscles to become stronger (13).
Weight training has many benefits to ones body and health. By lifting weights one can significantly improve their body structure. For example, many people who want to loose weight exercise with weights in order to turn the fat into muscle. By improving their body structure, they also feel more confident and better about themselves. Athletes train with weights in order to improve speed, endurance, and strength. It was thought before that muscles would slow an athlete down, but over the years research has shown that it does quite the opposite. A stronger muscle works better and faster when running long endurance races and helps the athlete to not get tired too easy. Apart from athletes and people who want to loose weight, many people exercise with weights for many different reasons.
Many men exercise with weights for a particular number of reasons. For many young men, they want to look "bulky in order to be able to defend themselves if ever the circumstances were to occur. Another reason why young men lift weights is because it is advertised in the media all the time. They always see an image of a fighting man, such as Rambo, doing everything in his power to stop the swarming army of enemies. Older men exercise with weights because they want to look and feel younger. Another reason why older men lift weights is because they want to live a healthier and longer life.

Hokey

This issue has been on the forefront of college campuses the country over; this issue is gender equality in sports, introduced in 1972 as Title IX of the Education Amendments, was put in place to set standards for universities; stating in short that no person in the United States on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation, nor be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program receiving federal financial assistance (collegenews).
The basis of my arguments will be the pros and cons of men vs. women in sports and the impact that women have had on college campuses and in the media. It is in the news as well as on campuses that Title IX is responsible for the reduction in the support for men's sports and ultimately the elimination of some programs to make way for the federal regulations for equity numbers in women's programs. Since many men's programs are being done away with at Division I schools to meet numbers many are getting frustrated and even suing. At California State University (Northridge), the university made national headlines by eliminating four men's sports teams. Taken in a recent Supreme Court decision keeping bans on gender discrimination in all federally funded education programs, the CSUN event brings up the questions now faced at many American institutions of higher learning: to even out lopsided opportunities for men and women in college sports, and will more men's programs have to go? In the same study, "It is a myth that the growth of women's sports has been responsible for the elimination of men's sports, says Donna Lopiano executive director of the Women's Sports Foundation.

I think that in general Title IX has had a positive impact on sport. I believe that people are looking for the wrong answers to come from that legislation. Title IX can not provide money-making athletic programs to support the legislation and it can not force the people in charge of ensuring that Title IX is carried out to do so in manner that resembles a men's program. I believe that Title IX has gotten the ball rolling on creating new girls programs in the youth and high school level as well as the collegiate level, but for some people that is not just enough. People want one of the effects of Title IX is for coaches of women's teams to make a comparable salary to their counterparts coaching the same men's sports. I completely disagree with that.
Granted, Title IX has forced the emergence of girls/women's programs all over the nation. I believe that has been greatly beneficial to sport. I agree that women deserve the same opportunity as men in regards to recreational programs as well as the chance to earn a college scholarship by playing a sport. According to Susan Leitao, associate director of programs at Northeastern's Center for the Study of Sport in Society, "Girls who play sports are more likely to finish high school, they have lower pregnancy rates, and they're less likely to take up smoking and drinking. That in and of itself shows the positive effect of Title IX.
